Backbreaker was a particularly interesting project to work on. Not only was it significantly different from the previous project (Lara Croft) but also as it allowed me to work in different ways and with different technology. I worked with external developers in order to deliver the product and used some of NaturalMotion’s technology combined with in house tech.
After having done a considerable amount of User Interface implementation on Lara Croft, one of the main tasks I had was to do the User Interface on Backbreaker 2. This involved making reusable menu styles and providing a pleasant user interface, working alongside artists.
Another major area I worked on was the animation system, which involved working with NaturalMotion’s Morpheme animation system, using premade animations, calculating proper responses and linking them into the gameplay properly.
As well as UI and animation, I also did general gameplay development, integration of the achievement system, management of the build system and bug fixing.
